first day of chinese new years was pretty simple. heading off to vegetarian branch before stopping and hanging out at granny's place. family members come one by one for chinese new years visiting and the young ones says "ang pao roving".

headed to different family and parent's friends places to rove for my collection. and ended up back in granny's place again for dinner.

i finally got to go to kek lok si today. really tired from a whole day. bed time. more tomorrow. =))

back to penang. day five. part five.

as we walked towards the sixth temple which is the kuan yin temple, we were already prepared to feel the heat and smoke. as we got closer to the temple we could already see the smoke from far.

the outside of the temple was practically like a war zone. having seen fire burning everywhere. *i'm sorry if it sounded rude* but with all the tumbled joss stick cups and burning candles all over, it really felt and looked like it.

moreover, there were way more beggars at this temple compared to others. so as i prayed for the safety and health of myself and my love ones, i prayed to the gods to protect my camera when i was there as well. *it was pretty scary if u were there. trust me.*

some kneeled outside to pray, some brought their goggles along to enter the temple. while some of my relatives went through the whole thing, some had a seat at a stall nearby to take a break after simple prayers to the deities from the outside.

while i did something crazy, going through all the heat being the only girl standing with a DSLR with one reporter from The Star and a few other random guys near the big joss stick burning fennel, i believe it was all worth it. the final outcome of the pictures put a smile on my heated up oily face at the end of the shoot.

i was trying out shooting fire lines and for a first timer i'm happy with the outcome with only my kit lens.

and then we left for the final temple. where the temple is located at the roadside and it is a small one. elder people squish to get in to the temple while younger ones will choose to stand outside. we were done with our roving this year in 2 hours record. half an hour faster than last year.

i'm actually really happy to be part of all these actually. it may be tiring but it is really fun to do it once a year. today is first day of chinese new years. so happy chinese new years my dear readers and followers. may health and prosperity will hope into u soon!!!~

back to penang. day five. part four.

temples three and four were actually located back to back. so there weren't any traveling in between the two temples. just walking over. and these two temples have really pretty lights and different deity statues that gives different protection and blessings.

and different temples have different structures and carving designs. however mainly are different dragon representations.

temple five was still alright from the outside, but the inside was a little bit smoky for me to go on. i stepped in and did my prayers then continued with my works.

the dragon turtle is suppose to represent something. i'm not too sure but i decided to camho with it coz i think it'll prolly bring me better luck coz i'm a dragon baby.

and next stop temple six is the kuan yin temple. blog post on its on coming up.

back to penang. day five. part three.

and after reunion dinner we all gathered at cousin's place as a meet up point before we headed out to the 7 temples roving. its a family tradition where we have to rove to 7 different temples to pray. so take a look at the amount of joss stick that we prepared for the prayers.

the first two temples were practically still okayh coz there weren't many people and smoke yet. so we were still safe from sneezing and watery eyes. XD and as we step into the third and fourth, it was still ok coz the temples were very clean and not smoky too. up to the fifth temple onwards, we all started to feel the heat, smoke and watery eyes.

pictures says a thousand words…so the next few blog postings will be more on the 7 temple pictures.

temple one and two down. five to go.

back to penang. day five. part two.

family reunion dinner is the most important part of chinese new years eve. and every year with no vain we will all gather at granny's tiny lil house for the dinner. the usual dishes appears in front of us, starting of with "yee sang" to steam fish and finally steamboat session.

they just mean so much when the family members get together like this. plus this year we have a new family member at the dinner. so even more squishhhyyyy!!!!~

the family got home pretty late from 7 temples roving last night. and today is the beginning of ang pao collections!!!~~
